Stress

What is stress?

Stress occurs in whole day, not only in working hours.

According to Stone, Raymond (2008), “Stress has been described as the rate of wear and tear on the body caused by living. It is a general term for pressures and problems people experience as they go through life. In itself, stress is neither good nor bad. In fact, some degree of stress is normal and necessary for day-to-day survival. Even when people are relaxed there is a minimal amount of stress present. Without stress, energy, and motivation would be absent. Stress is unavoidable in human existence.”

“Stressors are the things that cause stress. They are the stimuli or circumstances that bring about a change in people’s psychological and physiological equilibrium. Whether the stressors are positive or negative, the initial physiology reactions are much the same. Rapid heartbeat, increase blood pressure, dryness in the mouth and quickened breathing are some of the dominant reactions.” (Stone, 2008)

Type of Stressors
Stress can killed a person

The stressor includes work overload and underload, role conflict and role ambiguity, bad bosses, and workaholism.

Work overload is to describe the common condition of overwork.
There are two types of work overload:
1. Quantitative overload
2. Qualitative overload.
It is stress when we cannot handle the job task.

Quantitative overload is employee having too much of work to do in the time available. It is an obvious source of stress and linked to a chronic disease such as coronary heart disease.
Qualitative overload involves the work that is too difficult. Having inadequately ability to perform a job is stressful. Even though the employees have a considerable ability, it is also finding them in some situation which they cannot cope with the job’s demand.

Work underload is the employees having the work that are too simple or insufficient to fill a worker’s time or challenge an employee’s abilities. It is also stressful. Work underload will increase boredom and monotony and reduced job satisfaction.

An employee’s role in the organization can be a source of stress.
Role ambiguity arises when the scope and responsibilities of a job are unstructured defined. The employees do not know what to do and what is expected. Most of the new employees are facing this problem due to the unclear job description. An adequate orientation programs for mew employees can reduce the role ambiguity. There are three components of role ambiguity that found by I-O psychologist: performance criteria ambiguity which is irresolute about the standards used to evaluate an employee’s job performance, work method ambiguity which is uncertainty about the procedures appropriate to the successful performance of the job, and scheduling ambiguity is the uncertainty about the timing of the job.

Role conflict arises when a discord occurs in job requirement or between the job’s demands and the values or expectations between the employees. For example, a supervisor may ask the subordinates to involve the decision making but the subordinates’ suggestion may not increase the productivity.

A poor leadership behavior can lead to stress. For example, supervisors or managers fail to support their subordinates or refuse their subordinates' decision without any reason or explanation. When the subordinates cannot get any approves from their superiors, they feel helpless, hopeless, and useless during the work.

People who are addicted to their work are descripted as workaholics. Not all the employees are described as workaholics but it is for those who are anxious and insecure. Workaholics are happy, well-adjusted people who enjoy their work. These kinds of people seldom take vacations because they feel it is unnecessary. But they may become a source of stress to other due to their extreme sense of commitment.

For those who are workaholic would not rest for a moment.

How to handle stress?

The stress can be reduce when every worker is cooperate.

The ways to eliminate the stress of work overload is to learn how to distribute the job task fairly and proper matching of the job requirements according to my abilities. You can distribute the job with the weightiness, complete the most importance job. Besides that, you should choose the job are not out of your abilities.

Role ambiguity occurred on the new employee. You can figure out the problem of the role ambiguity such as the description of job task, schedule and so on. Once you figured out the problem, you can ask your supervisor or senior employee about the brief description of your job task then jot down a note to avoiding forgotten. After you knew the job task then it will be easy to do your work without any error.

Burnout occurred when you cannot finish the work on time; therefore, you have to stayed back to finish them. And if you were a new employee; you have to take time to familiar with your work. It can lead to burnout also. The way to reduce the stress of burnout is by going to yoga class during weekend. Through the yoga lesson, you can reduce the stress of burnout and enhanced your immune system to prevent the illness.

Bas bosses might create fear among employees. Employees might be afraid to go for work and even get stressed out and depressed due to those conditions. In my opinion, I will try my very best to be patient towards the boss. I will still continue to focus and bring out the best in my work without any mistake. However, if the bad behaviour of my boss still persists, I will schedule a discreet talk and gently point out the effort of his/her behaviour is having on me and how it affects my performance. By directly disusing the problem with my boss, I believe it will be able for solve any misunderstanding that might have been taken place. In this matter, it is much more efficient in saving the issue.

Yoga not only to reduce the stress, it is also enhance your immune system.

Maori Haka Dance

Maori

Maori are the indigenous people of Aotearoa New Zealand, and their story is both long and intriguing. On the basis of oral records, archaeological finds and genetic analyses, historical treatises place the arrival of Maori in New Zealand in the thirteenth century AD. The origin of Maori has been reliably traced to the islands of Eastern Polynesia, and their journey to New Zealand occurred in a number of epic waka (canoe) voyages over a significant period of time. These journeys established Maori as daring and resourceful adventurers, and as one of the greatest navigating peoples of all time.
Haka dance

Contemporary Maori culture has been shaped by the traditions of its rich cultural heritage, with an outward view of the challenges faced by indigenous peoples in a global society. Defining aspects of Maori culture include art, legend, tattoo (Ta Moko), performances (notably Kapa Haka), customs, hospitality and community. Since the early 1980s Maori culture has undergone a renaissance. The regeneration of interest in Maori culture has extended to language, and Maori language programs (such as kohanga reo) are now flourishing.

According to legend, the haka was derived from the sun god Ra. He had two wives: Hine-raumati, who was the essence of summer, and Hine-takurua, the essence of winter. Ra and Hine-raumati lay together and gave birth to a son called Tanarore. On hot, shimmery summer day it is impossible to see the light dancing. Legend has it that this is Hine-raumati’s son, Tanarore, performing for his mother and the wiriwiri or trembling shimmer is today reflected in the trembling of the haka performer’s hands.

dance steps with Maori language

For most people, Haka is a war dance because it was perform by the All Blacks during the rugby competition, the Ka mate! As a pre battle challenge to their opposition.

All Blacks

However, the word “haka” simply means dance, or a song accompanied by dance. Although “dance” is literally similar with “haka”, the word do not do justice to the actions, life force, rhythm, words, themes, style, meaning or history.

Leadership

What is leadership?
Leadership is important in the workplaces.

Leadership is the declared desire and commitment to leads the group of subordinates to achieve their goals and success. Leaders may establish the experiences, wisdom and discernment to build the trust and influence the subordinate to make the right decision.
According to Peter F.Drucker (1995), the only definition of a leader is someone who has followers, some people are thinkers, and some are prophets but both roles are important and badly needed. If without followers, there can be no leaders. Therefore leadership is not rank, privileges, titles, or money. It is responsibility.
Leadership is a function of knowing yourself, having a vision that is well communicated, building trust among colleagues, and taking effective action to realize your own leadership potential. (Warren Bennis & Goldsmith, 1994). In their view, the definition of leadership is focused on the individual capability such as interpersonal and intrapersonal communication skill, positive attitudes, and so on. As a leader they must have a strong influence on their subordinates. When subordinates face the problem, they should help subordinates to solve the problem or give some opinion on the issues.

Types of leadership
A good leadership can avoid the confusion of the subordinates.

Charismatic leaders have a wide knowledge about their field, a self-promoting personality, a high energy level and a willingness to take risk and use unconventional strategies. Leaders are encouraging their subordinates to think independently and ask questions.  They tend to create high job performance and positive work attitudes among their subordinates. In addition, charismatic leaders are maintaining an open communications and freely share the recognition with their subordinates. They are the ones who initiate the new organization, direct organizational change, and gain the subordinates’ productivity. They can be insensitive to the needs of their subordinates and act only for personal gain.
Transformational leaders have more flexibility in their behaviour. These kinds of leaders are not limited by their subordinates’ perception rather than act in accordance with their subordinates who expect of them. Transformation leaders are transforming or change their subordinates’ needs and redirect their thinking on the job task. These kinds of leaders tend to challenge and inspire their subordinates with a sense of purpose and the excitement of what can be accomplished. Leaders build a corporate culture and communicate among the employees to avoid misunderstanding and given everyone a change to speak out their opinion and feedback.
Transactional leaders lead their subordinates by identifying their needs. Leaders have a right to award them for satisfy their needs in exchange of a certain level of performance. They are focus on increasing the efficiency of established routines and procedures and more concerned about existing rules than making changes to the structure of the organization.
Subordinates will cooperate when the leader leads them correctly.

Transsexualism @ Chow Kit

Dealing with a customer
Transsexualism, is a condition in which a person assumes the identity and permanently acts the part of the gender opposite to his or her biological sex. Transsexuals have historically often been subjected to considerable discrimination. Transsexualism is distinct from transvestism (cross-dressing) and does not always indicate a change in the individual's sexual preference. Generally, there are two types of transsexualism, from a male to female, and vice versa. A male who ‘transform’ himself into “herself” is also known as Ah Gua’s. Ah Gua' meaning a man acting like a woman. To certain extend, it could mean transvestite.

expecting a customer, waiting.

Society has been discriminating against these people ever since from the olden days. The society stereotyped them as the people who have no dignity in life and call them all kinds of funny names just to tease them. They are discriminated and heavily criticized by religious groups. Their life is often isolated from the others though they have their very own community of the same kind. Life is utterly hard and pitiful as they have to go through so much of discrimination and criticism. Most of them did not want to choose this errant path, but because of the environment and economic factor, they had to because of such adversities. Earning a living is what they have in mind, rather than earning for a good living akin to those higher end prostitutes.

This is not some kind of movie, this is real among us. You ignore them but they are exist. Life is tough for certain people. These Ah Guas are forced to become lower class prostitute due to the economic pressure. They travelled so far from Indonesia yet job opportunities are not awaiting them.

looking for someone?

No doubt they are disgusting for us, stereotyping and judges are being done but did you ever think about how pity they are? They are human, just like us. They need to live, to eat and to survive.

still live like a normal person.
They were beaten, harassed, and physically abuse by their customers yet they can’t complain to anyone because what they are doing is illegal. I have seen worse things and this is one of them. Please appreciate your life, do not complain because you have a very good living quality compare with them.

Movie Review - We Not Naughty

An official poster and it is released at 5th April 2012

This movie is to promoted the importance of the family's love and a responsibility teacher- how the teacher keep his promise to their students, how he changed his students' mind and how to helped his students to choose the right ways.

The movie is talking about the careless, and neglected their children's attitude, result and the current problem. The main reason is lack of communication between the parents with their children.

Children always imitated their parents. A good example is the mother asked her son lied to the salesman that she is not around but she was taught her son that not to lying. It is contradiction.

Besides that, a single mother who have a successful career but she has failed to communicate with her children. In her mind, money can settle everything but she's not realized the only thing that children want is concern. Children are sensitive. They wants to get the attention from their parents not the money.

In parents' perspective, top students are always good but they do not understand their life such as study, relationship, and so on. It is very upset when the parents did not listen to them.

It is very painful when delivered a baby, therefore, they knew that be a mother is not an easy thing. And realized that whatever they did before were wrong and asked for apologies from their parents.

It is a reflection of the parents, most of them did the same things. As a parents, they have to listen to their children and share the information when they are in crossroad. We cannot categorized the children in "good" and "bad" zone. They are same, no matter what zone they are. The talent is cannot be compared.
