YMCA Youth: Visit to Rumah Sayangan Orphanage during Chinese New Year

Rumah Sayangan's house.
YMCA youth paid a visit to Rumah Sayangan Orphanage during Chinese New Year. YMCA youth were working as a volunteer in YMCA. They were students from colleges and universities. One of the youth was even from Korea. The youth were constantly visiting orphanage house every month. They were compassionate, caring, willing to share their love and skills to others and loved to serve the community.

During this Chinese New year, they were having a potluck lunch here – Rumah Sayangan Orphanage. Potluck was an event that was especially for a large group where everybody brought various foods to be shared and played games at the same time.

Although it was usually quite acceptable to buy foods for potlucks, but the youth tend to cook as their contribution. It was a great way to share their loves and caring towards the kids. Perhaps they were proud of and enjoy making.  The youth prepared various foods such as fried rice, fried mihun, nuggets, French fries, chicken wings, handmade breads and drinks.

The kids were waiting for the youth to start the games.
Once the YMCA youth reached the Rumah, the kids look so excited. They loved visitors.  Before everything started, the youth leaders introduced themselves. Then, the event started by having an ice breaking session to know each and everyone in the Rumah.

The youth were demonstrating the steps to make ang pow tang lung.
Then, making ang pow tang lung sessions started. The group was too big, so they were separated into few groups. For the younger kids, they were separated to a group that was learning how to make small decorations using ang pow. For the elder ones, they had to share out the work and cooperate with one another by making the ang pow tang lung.

Of course, before they knew how to make by themselves, the youth were here to demonstrate and guide the kid step by step. After all, everyone was so concentrated on doing their work. Although not every kid was Chinese, there were some Indians too, and yet, they were learning together. This was considered as 1 Malaysia too. The kids were learning some extra skills which they did not learn before.

Esther was feeding the kid, Susan. "Yummy yummy.."
After about an hour, they finished their ang pow tang lung. By that time, it was already lunch hour, some of the youth distributed the foods into plates and some were still playing and communicate with the kids.  In only a few short hours, the youth already mixed well with the kids in the Rumah. When the youth wanted to leave, some kids even cried.

When the youth was about to leave, the dean orphanage, Susan told that she hoped that more volunteers and manpower to join hands in helping the children through giving tuition, encouraging them, showing that they were loved and not unwanted, guiding the kids on enhancing their self-confidence and learning skills but not only playing games and having fun.

To those who are interested on doing volunteers, kindly contact the person-in-charge, Charissa Giam at 03-91314339 for further enquiries. The address of Rumah Sayangan is 14-16, Jalan Siput 3, Taman Billion, Cheras, 56000 Kuala Lumpur.
Ice breaking time.
"It's not that hard as I thought?"
"I'm concentrating on my work."
The youth were trying to make it looks nicer. From the left hand side is Youth from Korea, Esther.
"Yay! Finally I finished the tang lung but I'm shy to snap a photo."
Here was the potluck food that YMCA Youth prepared.

The Quadrantids Meteor Shower in 2012

This is a real photo captured during the Quadrantids Meteor Shower Season
(5th January 2012)
Not a popular topic yet its eye-catching - Meteor shower.

News Chaser had the opportunity to cover this news as the meteor season happens to appear recently.

Quadrantids Meteor shower is the very first season meteor shower for every year. This phenomenon is actually caused by the Earth passing through the dust particles of a minor planet - 2003 EH1.

Kledang Hill of Ipoh is the location of mine to stay away from city lights in order to enjoy the view of shooting stars when they cross the sky. I've missed the peak time (4th of January) because of the heavy rain. However, I decided to try my luck on the following day (5th of January). Unfortunately, the meteors are not as rapid as expected. I only managed to watch four of them between 11pm to 3am. It is believed, that the waxing of the moon of approximately 72% full had overrode the light of the meteors and thus reduced the amount of visible meteors.

There are numbers of other famous meteor shower season for meteor lovers to enjoy throughout the year. So, get your gadgets on and move to somewhere where light pollution and damage can be reduced as much as its possible to have a spectacular view!

Communication Model.

The Vicious Cycle.

Why Do We Need To Understand the Communication Model?
Communication is central of our life. An effective communication can solve the problem and improve the relationship in our personal life. Besides that, communication is the process by using messages to generate meaning.

What is the Communication Model?
It is include the verbal and nonverbal signs, symbols, and behaviors. People communicate with reason and they expect the respond from the other people as well. In communication situation, it is content four models: people, messages, channels, and feedback.

How Does it Work?
There have two roles of people in communication process - the sources and the receivers of messages. The source is to convey the messages and the receiver is to give a response on it. Individual cannot perform these two roles independently. For example, you may want to get the direction to KLCC then you will ask someone nearby. And the receiver will give the direction to the person.

Element: MESSAGE
The message is the verbal or nonverbal form of ideas, thoughts, or feelings that one person who wants to communicate with another person. Message can be brief and easy to understand or long and complex.

Getting through a complete message is not simple. Only if you are doing it wrongly.

It is an interaction between the people and include the phrases with the movement, body gestures, eye contact and other nonverbal codes. This is depending on what you want to know and what you suppose to do with. For example, if you want to know how to use the Adobe software then you will ask someone about it. And the receiver will give the appropriate answer on the topic that you want to know.
 Element: SENDER
A sender is someone who initiates the thought of sending through the message. In other words, people who engage first in the conversation is the sender regardless the purpose. In his thoughts, encoding happens.

Element: ENCODING
Encoding is the process of handling the points and transforming into a message to the receiver.
In order to encode it perfectly. The sender must consider what are the goals and objectives of sending this message. Does he/she wants feelings to be understood? or does she wants to talk it out?

After all that, it will become a message.

Element: RECEIVER
The receiver is the one who receive the message and decodes the content of the message. He/she is the respond target marked by the sender.

Element: DECODING
After listening to the message, the decoder will decipher the content of the message and tries to understand it. It maybe interrupted through the channel and noises. The receiver will after that provide a respond which called a feedback.

Element: CHANNEL
The channel is the ways to deliver the message from the source to the receiver. It can be sound waves, light waves or both. For example, radio, images, newspaper or others. In person-to-person communication is through the sound and light waves because the person enable to see and hear what the other person said.

Government and private organization may want to promote the campaign of recycle and they will promote through media such as advertisement in television by light waves and through the sound waves in radio.

Element: FEEDBACK

Feedback is the receiver’s response to the source’s message. Providing the feedback is to let the sources knows the message was delivered and received. Feedback is a part of any communication situation. If you ask someone, “Excuse me, where is the washroom?” but the person just walk away and ignore the message. Then this message is not delivered and you cannot get the satisfy respond for the question.

The typical Communication Model.

Element: NOISE

Noises are interference within the communication model. Noises play a role in the communication model because sometimes messages that are not effective are cost by noises. It may lead to misunderstanding and major errors.
Noise happens all the time due to the nature of communication. It can be pronunciation, background noises, and even surrounding environment.
You can't listen well when there is a baby crying on the other line. Eighteen and Eighty might sound the same on the phone.
